The Effectiveness of Psychodrama on the Ego-Resilience of Children

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to find out the effectiveness of psychodrama on the ego-resilience of children. Ego-resiliency tests were administered to 96 elementarystudents of the 5th grade at H Elementary School in Jeju, and ten students were selected for the experimental group, who scored the lowest on the test. Another ten students were randomly selected for the control group. The experiment group participated psychodrama program eight sessions, 90 minutes per session, once a week for 8 weeks. Results were as follows. First, the ego-resilience of the experimental group children increased significantly higher than the control group children after the program. Second, the experimental group children showed significantly higher scores on the subcategories of Ego-resilience such as interpersonal relationship, vitality, emotional control and optimism than the control group. In summary, psychodrama was found to help children respond flexibly to stressful situations and act appropriately to the demands of the situation by enhancing their spontaneity and creativity. Also, it improved their problem-solving abilities, allowing them to adjust better to society by enhancing their ego-resilience.
